Testimonials

“You are providing a need during a critical time in the world. I hope you will continue this effort.”
“Our intern was a great problem solver. He helped provide key capacity on a project that was over capacity and allowed us to provide a better experience to our teachers. Our funder was also very impressed with the work completed by our intern!”
“Our intern came equipped with the mindset, skills and knowledge in the areas of need. She was equipped with the skills and eager to learn. The possibility of interns working beyond the summer is probably important to nonprofits that had a great match with their interns. Luckily, we were able to offer our intern an opportunity beyond the summer.”
I appreciated the level of professionalism and technical capability of our intern. She was exceptionally mature for a college sophomore. Her problem-solving skills, attention to detail and applied knowledge of computer science was impressive.

FAQ

  • The build4good internship program matches post-secondary students from diverse backgrounds majoring in computer science, integrated digital media, UI/UX design, or other technology related fields to mission-driven non-profits. • Interns have access to mentorship from their host organization and the build4good team, and activities facilitated by the build4good team including in-person cohort kick-off gathering, weekly cohort meetings and individual check-ins, and leaders and experts from tech companies and other non-profits.

All potential build4good interns are required to submit applications. The build4good team reviews applications, conducts interviews, checks references, and recommends potential interns to host organizations. If both parties agree to the match, the next step is to outline project goals and activities, determine time frame for internship, number of hours per week, and stipend amount.

We request host organizations to have a primary person oversee the virtual internship, provide mentorship to build4good interns, communicate with the build4good team, and offer a stipend. We recommend that host organizations offer interns a stipend of at least $20/hr. For 20 hours/week for 12 weeks an average summer stipend is approximately $5000.

Interns have a range of skills including web development, backend development, database design, data visualizations, and data analysis. Most importantly, we value a growth mindset and interns excited to learn new skills.

Interns are expected to commit an average of 20 hours per week depending on the project for 10-12 weeks. Further commitment can vary based on the project and its requirements.
